Aroundsquare's stainless steel Knucklebones are a pocket friendly skill toy that can be manipulated to perform tricks or just pass the time. The SS model is relatively heavy at around 78.6g, and carries a fair bit of momentum. The surface is machine finished with a light polish, and although stainless steel is not as tacky as brass or copper, the finish nonetheless provides a sufficient grip to prevent it from slipping out of the fingers. Playing the heavy metal versions can be good exercise for the fingers, and the momentum can be an advantage for learning certain tricks. The metal kbones are laser etched with the word "a r o u n d s q u a r e" around the equator to mark their authenticity.

The weight and hard material mean it will make a loud noise when it is dropped on hard surfaces, and has the potential to break things in its path. Be careful with it. The brass is relatively soft, and will still show scratches and dings on the drop portions.. it falls with weight, so it hits concrete hard.

    Deadeye - Stepped Edition

The stepped edition of the Deadeyes takes the original concept of a coin designed for contact manipulation, and brings it to the next level by offering a more angular and grippier design, for supreme control. This edition is slightly sized down and slimmed down from the original, reducing the overall weight noticeably. While the new shape is not as ergonomic as a straight up worry coin, the angles provide excellent control for sleight of hand and more conventional "coin tricks"

The stepped edition of the Deadeyes takes the original concept of a coin designed for contact manipulation, and brings it to the next level by offering a more angular and grippier design, for supreme control. The small model has been sized to cross over into conventional sleight of hand, magic, and coin trickery, while still enabling players to perform the contact coin isolations and manipulation that has made the Deadeyes a favourite.

This model is slightly sized down and slimmed down from the original, reducing the overall weight noticeably. While the new shape is not as ergonomic as a straight up worry coin, the angles provide excellent control for sleight of hand and more conventional "coin tricks".

General Info on the Deadeye Contact Coins

Aroundsquare’s Deadeyes are part skill toy, part worry stone, part mind control device. Roll them between your fingers, or press use your thumb into the smooth contour and breath deep to dissolve the stresses of daily life.

These contact coins are designed to be handled and manipulated. On the surface, the Deadeyes look like just a refined worry stone made from metal, and they certainly serve well for that. They are precisely crafted and beautifully finished, with an ergonomic indent on either side that is perfect for thumbs of any size. But as you’d expect from AO2, there’s more to it than that. The concave shape and resulting ridge around the perimeter make the Deadeyes perfect for contact-style manipulation. With practice, they can be made to roll fluidly between the fingers, or back and forth over the thumbs, and isolations can be performed where the coins appear to be floating around the fingertips.

Deadeyes are Aroundsquare’s first entry into the world of currency manipulation, and they’ve put a lot of time and effort into the refinement of this design, and the development of possibilities surrounding it. The delrin version of the deadeyes is primarily intended as a lightweight worry stone. While it is possible to manipulate them and perform “contact coin” style tricks, as with the metal Deadeyes, the lightweight delrin material makes such manipulations harder to execute smoothly. That said, the shape is the same as the original metal coins, with the same ergonomic indent on either side, making them an excellent fidget toy that won’t weigh down the pockets.

The Delrin Deadeyes are currently available only in the larger 37mm diameter size. They weigh in at 7.5g per piece.

The Everyman series, is Aroundsquare's most refined begleri design to date. The design of the beads is simple, intentionally "average"..  hence the Everyman name. It borrows some of the best elements of both the Titans and the Hydras and integrates them in a fresh shape. It's bigger than one and smaller than the other. It's nothing bizarre. It's just normal. It's average. It's the Everyman.

The Everyman bead design updates the shape of the conventional "Standard Issue" Greek begleri for modern technical begleri play. The sloping top of the beads helps prevent the string from jamming up during rolls, like the rounded tops of the Titans. Like the Hydras, it features straight angles which help with grip and bead control, as well as a compact size which makes the beads nimble during play. While the beads are relatively small, at 17mm by 17mm, they feel substantial in the hand due to the angles and carry good weight.

AO2's Knucklebone is the original hardbody knuckle roller, make no mistake. This is a simple skill toy that is manipulated with the fingers of one or both hands to perform tricks and patterns, or simply to pass the time. It is very discrete (unless dropped) and can be played in very restricted spaces, and in contexts where other showier skill toys may not be appropriate.

The kbone is very appealing, not only for its elegant form and ergonomic design, but also, for the range of play styles that it enables. The rounded lines are perfect for spinning, flipping, and passing it between the fingers. It can be manipulated very casually and quietly like a worry stone, or can be used to perform a surprising array of freestyle flows, technical tricks, isolations, and even aerials.

The delrin knucklebones, while relatively inexpensive, are prized among players for their versatility and feel. Unlike metal and other plastics, delrin has a warm feeling, almost reminiscent of wood. It is also very durable, and stubbornly resists dings and breakage. It will scratch, but because it is relatively light, it tends not to take (or inflict) heavy damage when it is dropped.

The weight and smoothness of the toy are variables that affect play, and each material seems to be suited to different kinds of tricks. The delrin version is conducive to quiet manipulation and two-play including transfers, twiddling between fingers, and two-handed rolls.

Warnings: These are solid--can break things or hurt things if dropped. It is recommended that you play over carpet, couch, or the like, or outside. Also, keep them away from young kids and don't let anyone try to ingest them.

    Knucklebone - Silicone Honeybones

Aroundsquare knucklebones are a pocket friendly skill toy that can be manipulated to perform tricks, or just pass the time. With the original kbones, we sparked a whole new category of skill toys, but make no mistake, the knucklebones are the original hardbody knuckle rollers.

The silicone honeybones are made from high quality, relatively stiff silicone, and come in three sizes--the original size, mini (90%), and micro (80%). The flexibility, light weight, and grip of these pieces gives them a truly unique feel, and enables a range of flexing and stretching exercises which can be used to help condition and warm up the fingers. The grip and weight mean that they won't flow through the fingers as smoothly as other materials, but the flip side of that is that they provide immense control during play. Perhaps the most distinctive feature of these bones, however, is that they are extremely quiet to play, and drops don't pose a threat to toes, or to disrupting a quiet room with the loud clang of metal hitting the floor.

    Details:

    • Sold in 3-packs: one regular sized, one mini, and one micro
    • Available in either black, or colourless/ translucent silicone
    • Weights on all three sizes are very light

Warnings: Metal versions are heavy and solid--can break things or hurt things if dropped. It is recommended that you play over carpet, couch, or the like, or outside. Also, they are theoretically ingestible, so keep them away from young kids.

This is a simple skill toy that is manipulated with the fingers of one or both hands to perform tricks and patterns, or simply to pass the time.It is very discrete (unless dropped) and can be played in very restricted spaces, and in contexts where other showier skill toys may not be appropriate. There are a handful of tutorials already available online at the AO2 YouTube channel, and we are adding more to the playlist on a steady schedule.

The titanium version of the knucklebone is the jack of all trades. It is heavy enough to provide the momentum needed to reliably perform momentum-based tricks (think thumb rolls and sonics), while still being light enough to manipulate smoothly between two hands without exhausting the fingers too much. The titanium model has a sand-blasted finish that provides just the right amount of grip, while also helping to mitigate the stickiness that is sometimes felt when playing in humid climates or with damp hands. The titanium model is laser etched with the word "a r o u n d s q u a r e" around the equator. Over time, the sand blasted texture will tend to smooth out, giving way to a hand-polished finish which retains the same playability, but with a smoother and warmer feel. The natty version will tend to darken slightly as it gains a patina from contact with the skin.

Although the titanium model is lighter than the stainless steel and brass, it will still make a loud noise when it is dropped on hard surfaces, and has the potential to break things in its path. Be careful with it. The titanium very durable but will still show scratches and dings on the drop portions (see photo for reference).. it falls with weight, so it hits concrete hard.

Note from the designer: I developed the original knucklebone circa 1989 when I was a kid in school. The crude original version was made from some kind of polymer clay (see photo). The new version is better suited to bigger hands, and has been designed for smoother flow and better trick potential.

WARNING: Metal versions are heavy and solid--can break things or hurt things if dropped. It is recommended that you play over carpet, couch, or the like, or outside. Delrin versions look almost tasty, so keep them away from young kids, and don't let anyone try to ingest them.

Warning: The acrylic “Ice Bones” tend to attract the interest of children, but they present a choking hazard, so keep them away from children under 10.

    About the Acrylic “Ice” Knucklebones

The clear acrylic “Ice Bones” are lightweight, and have a smooth, glossy finish that provides good grip during play. The combination of weight and grip makes them less prone to drops, and is also excellent for many advanced moves that involve manipulating the kbone from one of the ends. Players accustomed to the momentum and gravity effect of the heavier metal versions may take some time to adjust to this style of play, but those interested in tricks and technical play will find this version extremely flexible and entertaining.

The Ice Bones are quite striking visually. They are fully transparent, and refract light in very interesting ways due to their curvatures, allowing for some stunning photography possibilities. The coloured versions are dyed with excellent colour saturation.

The 90% size "Mini" size gives a level of performance comparable to the original kbone size, with slightly less bulk. The 80% size "Micro" is still technically capable of all the same tricks, but for seasoned players, the size will feel very small, and will encourage a different style of play that is less dependent on momentum.

The wood version of our Knucklebones are among the lightest we've created to date, and have already become a favourite among top players. While the wooden kbones have the same size and shape as the originals, the lighter weight, combined with the wood grain texture, open up new possibilities for manipulation, using the round end knobs to manipulate, pivot, and stall the kbones during play. Players accustomed to the momentum and gravity effect of the heavier metal versions may take some time to adjust to this style of play, but those interested in tricks and technical play will find this version extremely flexible and entertaining.

These are shipped raw, without oiling or other treatment, and have the AO2 logo laser etched at the base of one end. The wood grain is visible in this state, but not highly pronounced. They will play very well straight out of the box, and will gradually darken over time as the wood picks up oil and moisture from the player's hands. Those wishing to accelerate this process can rub in a dab of any kitchen oil, beeswax, or other similar non-toxic wood product. The logos are shallow-etched--they have texture and can be felt, but should not chip or feel uncomfortable. Like the grain of the wood, the logos will darken over time.

Please understand that because these are made from a natural material, they will vary in appearance. Some are darker, some are lighter. Some have more pronounced grain patterns, and others have very little. This is particularly the case with the ebony and purple heart wood pieces, which have a wild range of patterns. Some have very distinct colour patters with sharp contrasts, and some are completely uniform in colour. Please understand the we cannot accommodate special requests in this regard. In addition, because these are turned on a wood lathe, there may be light markings or lathe lines on the wood. Any kbones with chips or splinters that might affect the feel or playability have been sorted out during our quality control process, but most of the kbones will have some visible discolouration or blemishes on close inspection. These are character marks, and if you're using your kbones a lot, they are certainly not going to be the last character marks. If you are uncomfortable with this, or if you want a much more precision-controlled item, we recommend the delrin models as a good alternative to the wood.

Please note that all wood versions are indeed made of wood, and have all the beauty, charm, and the vulnerabilities of wood. When dropped on rough surfaces, or if kept in pockets with sharp items like toothed keys, they may chip or scratch. That said, the wood versions are light enough that when they do drop, the impact is not very hard, and as such, they tend not to do much damage to themselves.

Note from the designer: I developed the original knucklebone circa 1989 when I was a kid in school. The crude original version was made from some kind of polymer clay (see photo). The new version is better suited to bigger hands, and has been designed for smoother flow and better trick potential.

Warnings: Some versions are heavy and solid--can break things or hurt things if dropped. It is recommended that you play over carpet, couch, or the like, or outside. Some versions look almost tasty, so keep them away from young kids, and don't let anyone try to ingest them.

Aroundsquare's Micro Boss begleri series is a "back to the roots" design that resembles traditional Greek begleri more than anything else we have produced to date. The pairs of small spherical beads are a throwback to the worry beads of an earlier era, before players started getting too technical. The multi-bead design, with the bottom-heavy metal pairings makes these sets soft and springy to play, with great overall weighting. These sets feel heavier than the specified weight due to the bottom weighting of the design.

These sets play very well, and players will find that most of their tricks translate well to the design, but the goal was to create a series with a traditional vibe that supports a more laid back playing style--a departure from the small, nimble sets used for highly technical play.

Aroundsquare's Hydra Begleri are a fun yet highly capable modern adaptation of the traditional Greek multi-bead begleri. All of the Hydra sets have multiple interchangeable beads, allowing for interesting combinations and customization of weight and materials. Mix and match the Mini Hydras with some of your traditional Hydras and Micro-Hydras, for your own unique setup.

The Titan begleri from Aroundsquare are dome topped, with a rounded bottom, and a straight, knurled barrel for excellent control and extremely smooth play. The Mini Titans feature the same design, shrunk down to a 16mm diameter (compared to the original 19mm for the titanium Titans, and 20mm for the aluminum version). The beads weigh in at around 9.7g each (compared to around 17g for the originals). With this bead design, the weight is enough to make them feel solid and substantial, but without any stress or strain on the fingers, even after hours of play.

Aroundsquare's "Standards" begleri series is a contemporary adaptation of the original timeless design, with a slightly refined shape, precision machined and polished to perfection. They feature the same 1:1 aspect ratio favoured by most players, and a compact form factor that is small enough to slip easily past the string instead of binding, and sufficiently rounded for comfortable play. The right angles in the design provide excellent bead control without compromising on nimbleness.

MoKnuckle is the single ball variant of our Monkey Knuckles skill toy. It’s amazing how much flow can be generated with just one ball on a string, and this setup, with delrin balls on soft 550 paracord, is ready to take that flow to the next level. The MoKnuckle features slightly larger balls than the delrin Monkey Knuckles, and are designed to give the player just a little bit of extra momentum to maximize the one-ball flow. The end grips are also slightly larger as well, giving the toy just the right balance when performing release moves, and carrying a little extra momentum to sustain motion once they are released.

Just like the two-balled Monkey Knuckles, these guys give professional grade performance. They ship with soft 550 paracord, which handles like a dream. The knuckles and end grips are machined from high quality POM/ delrin material, which will hold up to any abuse you give them. This is a versatile skill toy, designed give many years of solid play. The MoKnuckles come with two additional strings, a carry bag, an info card, and a couple of stickers (no box

    Monkey Knuckles - Delrin

The new delrin Monkey Knuckles are the smoothest MK ever made. These guys give professional grade performance. They ship with soft 550 paracord, which handles like a dream. The knuckles and end grips are machined from high quality POM/ delrin material, which will hold up to any abuse you give them. They are slightly smaller than the wooden models, at just 35mm diameter, and weigh a bit more, at 75g per set. The result is a compact set that flows with excellent momentum. They come boxed and pre-strung, with two additional strings, a carry bag, an info card, and a couple of stickers.

Note that because these are so smooth on the string, they are slightly more difficult to learn on than the wooden models. Intermediate and advanced players will almost certainly appreciate and prefer the feel and performance of the delrin, but beginners may prefer to start on one of the wooden models, or to start developing their skills with just one ball on the string, until they develop a feel for the way these flow.

    General Info on Monkey Knuckles

Monkey Knuckles is about as simple as a toy can be. It consists of two large balls tethered on a string, with two small beads at either end that serve as grips or counterweights. The design of the toy allows players to integrate elements of play from a number of other skill toys, including yo-yos, poi, and others, as well as totally unique styles of play. The idea is to use the different structural elements in order to create different patterns of motion, isolated tricks, and combinations.

Monkey Knuckles was first developed in 2003, partially in response to trends seen with other toys, including other skill toys, becoming increasingly high tech and complicated. Monkey Knuckles was an attempt to get back to a more basic kind of play that was not reliant on precision engineering, and would offer a rewarding experience for beginners learning their first tricks, as well as having the depth to allow advanced players to come up with more technical moves.

Monkey Knuckles allows for both individual tricks and continuous flow which links tricks together. One of the unique features of the toy is that there is rarely a drop or a "reset" required. When a trick is missed, it is relatively easy for players to recover by linking their play with a different move instead.

    Monkey Knuckles - Wood Series

Monkey Knuckles began as a wooden toy years ago, and this series remains true to those roots.

The solid beech wood Monkey Knuckles are around 37mm diameter for the large balls, and weighs in at around 49g per set. They sport a laser etched AO2 logo as a testament to their authenticity.

The mixed wood Monkey Knuckles make a statement with their ultra clean design, contrasting colours, and smooth natural finish. They around 40mm diameter for the large balls, and weigh around 55g (maple/ walnut version) and 57g (maple/ purple heart version) total. The smooth grain and slightly higher weight make them a favourite of many players.

Aroundsquare's Normal Rings are simple, but striking little bands. In classic AO2 style, we have taken a minimalist approach to the design of these rings, but have found a way to make them truly distinctive at the same time. We've dubbed them the Normals, but in reality, they are quite far from any concept of average. This is a completely custom ring design, which will immediately stand out from almost any other band side-by-side. What differentiates the Normals lies in the details. Despite their clean design, they make their presence known with a substantial look and feel. They feature a subtle upsizing in both the thickness and the width of the bands, giving them a surprising heft and a sense that you're wearing a good solid piece of metal. At the same time, the careful attention to detail in the curvatures and rounding make them very comfortable for daily wear. They're good and wide, at around 7.5mm width, and reach a 3mm max thickness at the midpoint of the band. They've got a convex interior, aka "comfort fit", and the curves on the interior and exterior are subtle enough to leave a nice chunky side profile, rounded smooth to ensure no hot spots.

With that basic description, let's be clear, these rings hold their own just as wearable hardware. But.. if you're into putting them through their paces, they're up to that as well. Our initial interest in the design of a ring came from inspiration in the form of ring manipulation. After months of research, trial, and error, we finally locked in on the Normal design--a comfortable and substantial band with ergonomic curvatures that's comfortable to simply wear, and a joy to manipulate. Every aspect of the design has been thoughtfully considered from the standpoint of wearability, aesthetics, and the facilitation of all types of manipulation, from the classic gryphon roll, through to sleight of hand and more advanced tricks. Whether you want to mess around with manipulations or not, the Normals have got you covered.
